Session 2: Millennials and Money
As outstanding student loan debt surpasses the $1 trillion mark, credit card debt is not far behind. Despite their hunger for success, millennials' debt inhibits long-term goals and exacerbates their anxiety about future financial hardships. Consequently, millennials are delaying the traditional life milestones such as home buying and marriage, as they come of age in a time of limited growth. Listen as experts discuss millennials' struggles and uncertain futures, and suggest savings tactics for this intriguing age group.

Keynote: Fixing the US Retirement System: Q&A with Teresa Ghilarducci, Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis, The New School, and Sharon Epperson, Senior Personal Finance Correspondent, CBNC
Independent experts agree that this is the first time in U.S. history in which the majority of working Americans will do worse in retirement than their parents and grandparents. More elderly people will work or look for work and pay off more debt than ever before, as more retirement assets are skewed toward the highest-income retirees. The top 20% of baby boomers own 72% of retirement assets. And nearly half of workers have no retirement plan at work because the system is voluntary for employers. Ghilarducci believes that a national rescue plan for our broken retirement system includes strengthening Social Security and increasing retirement savings, with better tax policy and a requirement for every worker to save at least 5% into a state- or federally-administered retirement account, and that mandates and guarantees are key.

Session 4: Establishing Influence Through Blogging

Bloggers and business journalists are increasingly working together to cultivate content and share ideas, but how can they benefit from each other on a deeper level? Hear bloggers’ strategies on how they are monetizing their sites and increasing followers; such tools could be effective in the burgeoning world of digital journalism from more traditional outlets. Regardless of outlet or site, personal finance writers must harness online news gathering tools while maintaining legitimacy in the field.

Big questions covered:

• What are some ways in which journalists and the personal finance blogger community are benefiting from each other?

• What does the future hold for these communities and how can we continue to support each other?
